KK Park, south of the border town of Myawaddy, has been synonymous with online fraud, cash cleaning and human trafficking for the recent half-decade.
Numerous individuals were enticed to the compound with guarantees of high-income positions, and then forced to run complex frauds, taking countless millions of money from affected individuals all over the planet.

KK Park started with a property arrangement in the first part of 2020 to construct an commercial zone between the Karen National Union (KNU), the armed ethnic organization which governs much of this region, and a little-known Hong Kong publicly traded firm, Huanya International.
Analysts suspect there are relationships between Huanya and a influential China-based mafia figure Wan Kuok Koi, often referred to as Broken Tooth, who has since backed additional fraud facilities on the frontier.
The facility developed quickly, and is readily visible from the Thailand side of the boundary.
Those who were able to flee from it detail a violent environment established on the numerous individuals, many from continental African countries, who were detained there, forced to work long hours, with torture and assaults inflicted on those who did not manage to meet targets.
Latest Actions and Claims
A statement by the regime's official media claimed its forces had "cleared" KK Park, releasing over 2,000 workers there and taking possession of 30 of Elon Musk's Starlink internet equipment – extensively used by scam hubs on the Thai-Myanmar frontier for online functions.
The declaration blamed what it termed the "extremist" KNU and volunteer militia units, which have been combating the regime since the takeover, for illegally controlling the territory.
The junta's assertion to have closed this infamous deception hub is almost certainly targeted toward its primary backer, China.
Beijing has been urging the junta and the Thailand administration to increase efforts to stop the illegal activities managed by China-based syndicates on their border.
In previous months thousands of China-based laborers were extracted of fraud facilities and transported on arranged aircraft back to China, after Thai authorities restricted access to power and petroleum provisions.
Larger Situation and Ongoing Activities
But KK Park is merely one of a minimum of 30 comparable complexes positioned on the frontier.
Most of these are under the control of ethnic Karen paramilitary forces allied to the regime, and many are still operating, with countless people running frauds inside them.
In fact, the assistance of these militia groups has been critical in assisting the junta push back the KNU and other opposition organizations from territory they captured over the past two years.
The junta now governs nearly all of the highway linking Myawaddy to the remainder of Myanmar, a objective the military set itself before it conducts the initial phase of the vote in December.
It has taken Lay Kay Kaw, a new town founded for the KNU with Japanese financial support in 2015, a time when there had been hopes for permanent tranquility in the Karen region following a nationwide peace agreement.
That represents a more significant blow to the KNU than the takeover of KK Park, from which it obtained a certain amount of funds, but where the majority of the financial gains went to military-aligned armed groups.
A well-placed contact has revealed that scam operations is ongoing in KK Park, and that it is possible the military occupied only part of the large-scale facility.
The contact also thinks Beijing is providing the Myanmar military rosters of Asian individuals it desires taken from the deception compounds, and returned back to stand trial in China, which may explain why KK Park was attacked.
