Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
